How to rate bottles and invite tasting reviews

Remember the bottles you enjoyed and hear what your friends thought. Give a bottle one to five stars, add a tasting comment and keep each response with that physical bottle.

1. Choose the bottle and save your rating

Sign in, choose your cabinet and find the bottle. Select View bottle and look for Bottle ratings. If you have two bottles with the same name, check the opening state, remaining amount and purchase details before choosing.

Under Rate this bottle or Your rating, choose one to five whole stars. Add an optional comment, then select Save my rating. Cabinet Owners and Editors can rate on the website; Viewers can read ratings and approved comments.

Describe what stood out: aroma, sweetness, smoke, texture or finish. For example: “Gentle smoke, vanilla and a long finish. Enjoyed neat.” This is an illustrative tasting note, not a review of a particular product.

You can also give an optional rating when adding a new bottle. To change your existing rating, return to the bottle, adjust your stars or comment and save again. This updates your own rating rather than adding a second response.

2. Read the average and individual responses

The ratings section shows an average out of five, the number of ratings and individual responses. Three ratings of 5, 5 and 4 give an average of about 4.67 out of 5; the website may round that display to one decimal place.

Ratings belong to individual physical bottle records. Rating an opened bottle does not automatically rate your sealed bottle of the same whisky. An unrated bottle has no average; it does not have a zero-star score.

3. Invite friends to rate the bottle

Cabinet Owners can open Invite people to rate this bottle on the bottle page. Enter up to 25 email addresses, one per line or separated by commas or semicolons, then choose Send rating invitations. Invite people who expect your email.

Each person receives a separate private link. They can submit one rating without registering, and the link expires after seven days. The guest page shows only the bottle name, producer and style. It does not let guests browse your cabinet or other responses.

Keep invitation links private: anyone holding a link can submit its response. In Manage rating invitations, Owners can see pending, submitted, expired or revoked invitations and revoke pending ones. A queued email or an invitation awaiting a response does not prove delivery.

4. Review comments before others see them

Stars count immediately. Comments need explicit Owner approval before other cabinet members can see them. This includes an Owner’s own comments and comments edited after approval. Owners and a rating’s signed-in author can see that rating’s unapproved comment.

Owners can select Approve comment or Reject comment on the bottle page. To review across the cabinet, return to Rating activity and choose Review comments. Use Refresh ratings to check for new responses.

Reviewer email addresses are visible only to the Owner and the rating’s signed-in author. Ratings and comments are not included in public collection share links or the current Excel export.

5. Ask ChatGPT about your ratings

With your ChatGPT connection enabled, try:

“Which bottles in my cabinet have a rating? Show the bottle, average, number of ratings and my own rating.”

“Show the individual ratings and comments for my opened bottle of [bottle name].”

ChatGPT follows your cabinet permissions and the same comment and email visibility rules. Give it enough detail to distinguish duplicate bottle names.

Cabinet Owners can also ask the plugin to save or update their own rating:

“Rate my opened bottle of [bottle name] four stars with the comment ‘Gentle smoke and a long finish.’”

The plugin currently supports rating changes for the connected Owner’s own rating. Editors can rate through the website. Rating invitations and comment approval are managed on the website; a comment added through ChatGPT still needs Owner approval.
